Melissa, an expert tutor, is an enthusiastic high school history teacher with experience working with diverse learners. A graduate of Seton Hall University, and currently employed by Newark Public Schools, she is certified to teach US History, World History, Sociology, Geography and Political Science. She has taught students at different grade levels including 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, and 12th. Melissa also has experience tutoring students for the PARCC, PSAT and SAT and her students showed a tremendous growth in test scores. Her strengths as an educator include creating hands-on interactive activities to help students understand the material, and working with low-level readers to build confidence and ability. Melissa also pulls on her 10 plus years of experience working in summer camps to infuse traditional lessons with elements of experiential learning.

Michelle, a master tutor, earned a B.A. in English and a M.A. in poetry. She is a bilingual English teacher who specializes in writing, literature, and Spanish. She has formal qualifications in teaching English and informal qualifications in teaching Spanish. Michelle currently teaches 11th and 12th grade English and looks forward to the new school year. As a former English professor and current high school teacher, she is very familiar with writing, editing, close reading and analysis of texts, and the research process. She is able to provide informal tutoring and homework help in this area or more structured instruction, depending on the needs of the child. While her teaching expertise is in English, she is a native Spanish speaker. As with English, she can provide informal or formal instruction based on the needs of the child. She is also able to provide immersion-based language learning. For fun, Michelle enjoys reading, taking photos, and creative writing. She also likes pop culture, including memes, and brings that fun, relevance, and playfulness to her teaching.

Mike, a master tutor, knows that no one excels at everything all of the time. His goal as your child's tutor is to help her or him through the rough spots and to teach strategies to help your child gain strength, confidence, and master skills. As a New Jersey certified teacher, he is familiar with modern pedagogy and expected grade-level appropriate skill sets from writing and grammar through understanding Shakespeare and modern classics. Mike has experience teaching at the high school level. He has worked with students in basic skills programs and those in honors courses. Mike is passionate about literature and composition and has a talent for making written words come to life. Mike has a very passionate and energetic approach to teaching and enjoys when students become enthusiastic about their writing. He looks forward to the opportunity to help students see their potential and achieve beyond their goals.

Myriam, a master tutor, earned her M.A. in urban education with a specialization in ESL has allowed her to better assist students in many areas of literacy. She has been an educator for over a decade, and has experience mentoring students with study techniques, reviewing college and high school research papers using MLA or APA format, implementing writing strategies for essays, and improving vocabulary during reading comprehension. In addition, Myriam's instructional experience as a social studies teacher combined with her dual majors (undergraduate degree) in history and political science have enabled her to provide and examine different aspects of history for historical context. If a student struggles with memorizing timelines, analyzing political cartoons, or understanding primary and secondary resources, Myriam has creative strategies to help said student. As an educator, she provides pupils with the necessary tools to succeed in both academia and in life. In her spare time, Myriam enjoys painting and playing tennis.

Neil, a master tutor, has an M.Ed. from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. Neil is a certified teacher with specializations in Spanish and Italian. He is an educator with almost 31 years of experience tutoring middle and high school students. Neil currently teaches 7th grade Italian at the middle school as well as Italian I and II in high school. Neil tailors his tutoring sessions based on student needs and learning styles. Neil establishes a rapport with his students in order that they feel at ease, and thus, learn accordingly. He builds confidence in his students' abilities by supporting and encouraging them. During his tutoring sessions, Neil injects fun activities which stimulate further learning. Neil enjoys reading, exercising, and listening to music.

Nickie, a master tutor, received his M.A. in elementary education from Howard University and his B.S. from Mississippi State University. While obtaining his M.A., Nickie served Fairfax County public schools as an instructional aide and student teacher; while also completing his research on traditional style teaching versus teaching with manipulates in the elementary classroom and its benefits. Nickie is currently working with the Bright Kids Agency in NYC as a part time Teacher and a Contract Tutor. Nickie's passion is to have students reach success in the classroom by their own personal way of learning which has inspired his love of tutoring.

Phyllis, a master tutor, graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth. She has been teaching at the elementary level for 18 years in Union, New Jersey. Phyllis has taught fourth grade for 12 years and third grade for 6 years. Phyllis has been tutoring for over 15 years and has focused on math, reading comprehension, study skills, and the writing process. She is an enthusiastic, dedicated and highly motivated teacher. Phyllis wants all of her students to grow academically and will work diligently to help them reach their goals.

Rebekah, a master tutor, has been teaching kindergarten for nine years and loves every minute of it. She graduated in 2006 with a dual certification in early childhood and elementary education from Kean University. In addition to her dual certification, she recently received her M.A. in educational leadership from Seton Hall. She loves motivating children and watching them succeed! When she is not working with children, she can be found running, hiking and exploring the outdoors!

Richard, an expert tutor, earned his M.A.F. and is a literature lover with a M.A. and a film buff with an B.A. in film theory and production. Richard is an adjunct professor of writing at Kean University and Union County College. Richard is a very unique tutor with vast abilities. He is an experienced middle school, high school, and college level tutor. In addition to being a certified secondary school teacher, he is a fiction writer. Richard believes that writing can and should be inspiring, even fun. He does his best to transform the process into one of discovery and excitement. In his spare time, he enjoys playing guitar, reading, and spending time with his family.

Ron, a master tutor, is a retired chemical engineer with more than thirty-five years of project management experience. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering from New York University, and his Master of Engineering from The City College of New York, both in Chemical Engineering. Concurrently with his long-term engineering career, Ron went back to graduate school and obtained a Master of Arts in Education as well as his Professional Clear California State Teaching Credential from Azusa Pacific University. He has more than fifteen years of classroom experience, as both a high school math and science teacher, and adjunct professor of mathematics at Argosy University in California. Throughout his teaching career, Ron has tutored elementary, secondary, and post-secondary students in all levels of mathematics, chemistry, and physics, in both public and private environments. While he was raising his children in Westchester County, New York, Ron served seven years as a Trustee of the Board of Education of the Yorktown Central School District, as well as volunteering for many activities within the district schools. During that same time period, he owned and operated (along with his wife) the Open Day Pre-School in Mohegan Lake, New York. Finally, Ron is a veteran of the United States Army, with active service during the Vietnam War.

Saarah has over 10 years of teaching experience and enjoys working with students of all ages. She has been a STEM instructor for the last 3 years in New Jersey. She received her master's degree in Sustainability and Leadership and enjoys incorporating creativity in her classes. She is very passionate about taking care of the planet and teaching STEM related skills while making sure that her students are able to understand the material being taught on an individual basis. Saarah caters to her students' individual and unique learning styles in order to connect and engage with them in a meaningful and successful way. She enjoys reading and spending time in nature.

Salvatore, a master tutor, graduated from Kean with a Bachelor's degree in English and then earned his Post-baccalaureate Teaching Certification. Since then, he has been teaching English and yearbook classes at Colonia High School. Salvatore has worked with students of all ages and learning abilities. What he focuses on most with his students is the ability to boost their reading comprehension and to be able to write a well-organized, focused paper. In addition to these two ideas, he works with students to find their own voice instead of simply regurgitating information back. He never teaches a story the same way twice to keep the material fresh and adapts it to our current society. One of the most rewarding classes he teaches is a class where he works with Senior students who have yet to fulfill their graduation requirements. In the past two years, he has had a 100% success rate in helping students fulfill their requirement before having to take part in a state portfolio assessment. He has also worked with Seniors on refining their college essays and helping them plan out their post-high school education plans. In addition to teaching, Salvatore was the high school adviser for the joint venture with Colonia Middle School in the Big Brother/Big Sister Mentor Program.

Shari's passion for the study of literature, research and writing has been the focus of her career for over 31 years. She was a high school English teacher in Edison for 8 years. For the past 23 years, she has enjoyed being the librarian of JP Stevens High School in Edison. Shari is passionate about her work because she has the opportunity to interact with and instruct all of the students in the school. Her goal is to help students develop skills necessary to succeed outside of and beyond high school and become lifelong learners. Shari loves spending time with her now adult children! And, in her spare time, she reads, runs and travels.

Shellie, a master tutor, graduated from Pennsylvania State University, earning a B.A. in journalism and history. She is an experienced communications executive, former teacher, and adjunct college professor. Her talent is making complex concepts clear and bringing out the best in students challenged by their English courses and examinations. Shellie is available to tutor in all aspects of the English language and written communication: grammar and syntax; literature comprehension; research skills, writing and paper preparation. Shellie also tutors students to prepare for the English and written portions of the ACT, PSAT and ACT exams. Shellie's philosophy is to balance the student's short-term interest in a good grade with the essential long-term need for improving overall writing and critical thinking skills. A student should never become dependent on tutoring. Shellie's focus is to encourage students to think for themselves and to become confident in their own, improving skills.

Siobhan S, a Master Tutor, is a middle school science teacher with a bachelors degree in special education. She holds teacher certificates for elementary k-5, and middle school science, grades 6-8. She is also a teacher of students with disabilities, all with highly qualified status. Siobhan has five years experience teaching middle school science where reading comprehension is incorporated in many lessons. She has been tutoring for two years in science and math. Siobhan enjoys traveling and exploring different parks with her dog.

Stephanie, a master tutor, taught grades 6-12 for over forty years in both public and independent schools. Stephanie taught English as well as Film Studies. Stephanie is an avid reader, loves film and developing her own photography skills. She also does needlework and is a teaching docent at a museum in New York City.

Suezette has taught for over 20 years, working with students from grades 6-12 and students at a variety of ability levels. Suezette has specific experience in: SAT Prep, College Essays and Applications, SSAT Prep, Writing Instruction, Reading Comprehension, Enrichment Activities, and Creative Writing. Suezette loves working with students to help them achieve their learning goals and needs.

Tarah, a master tutor, graduated UNCP, earning a B.A. in education. She is a professional educator specializing in reading and math. She has spent the last three years teaching 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade. Tarah has a strong passion for teaching children. Her number one goal is providing the best support to her students to ensure their growth and academic success. She also strives to assist with preparing them for their future. Tarah has experience tutoring 2nd through 5th grade.

Valerie, a master tutor, is a certified elementary and special education teacher with 8 years of tutoring experience. She has a B.A.Ed. from Rider University. She also earned a special education k-8 certification from Centenary College. Lastly, she's earned an M.A. in educational technology from Marygrove College. She has training in Orton-Gillingham and Wilson multi sensory reading programs. She has taught in both general education and special education settings (self-contained, resource room, in-class support and inclusion.) She's worked with students from kindergarten through 8th grade in diverse, blue ribbon New Jersey school districts. Currently, Valerie is a learning specialist at Golda Och Academy, working primarily with students in kindergarten and 3rd grade. She specializes in providing differentiated instruction and making the appropriate accommodations to meet the needs of every student. This allows them to build confidence and reach their fullest potential. In her spare time, Valerie loves to read, jog, and go hiking.

Vashanna, a master tutor, is an educator who graduated from Albright College with a B.S. in psychology. She is a certified elementary teacher (k-6.) Vashanna has been teaching 3rd grade for 5 years and has worked with a wide range of students. She is dedicated to creating lessons that ensure students reach their academic potentials. In her spare time she loves to dance and read. Her favorite childhood book is Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume!

Vasileios, a master tutor, has more than 10 years of experience as a full-time Professor at prestigious institutions of higher education, such as George Washington University, Baruch College, Stevens Institute of Technology and Fairleigh Dickinson University. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Statistics, an M.Sc in Finance and a B.Sc in Mathematics.
Vasileios has taught Mathematics, Statistics and Economics/Finance at all levels, both undergraduate and graduate levels. He enjoys teaching all Math subjects, as well as the quantitative and analytics sections of GRE/GMAT/SAT tests.  Aside from teaching, Vasileios also worked in the Financial Industry as a Quantitative Analyst, Data Scientist, and Econometrician.  

Zak, a master tutor, graduated from Montclair State University with his Masters in Pure & Applied Mathematics. He has been tutoring children and adults of all ages since 2010, with a focus on mathematics, but has experience with many additional subjects as well, including grammar, science, and SAT prep. Since 2016, Zak has been teaching college math classes in various locations, like Montclair State University, Kean University, and to the incarcerated population in the NJ prison system through Raritan Valley Community College. He really enjoys connecting with students and is constantly seeking new ways to explain concepts so that the ideas click with each student's unique way of thinking. Outside of the realm of math, Zak is a language enthusiast and an aspiring polyglot, always working on learning new languages!
