Science Tutoring

Jessica, an expert tutor, received her BA in Early Childhood Education Degree from Kean University. She is certified as Teacher of Preschool, grades Prek-3, and as an Elementary School Teacher, grades K-6. Jessica has been teaching for 4 years and is currently teaching 4th-grade math and science. She is currently in graduate school for her Special Education Certificate. Jessica enjoys traveling and making memories with her son.

Joshua, a master tutor, earned his A.B. from Rutgers University in 2003, Joshua went on to work towards a M.A. In 2011, earning it Kean University. Being the consummate student, he did not stop there. Currently, Joshua is back at Kean University and is a candidate for his Ed.D., with an anticipated graduation date of May 2018. Passionate about finding unique technological methods to teaching, his doctoral dissertation focuses on effective uses of technology in the elementary classroom; an extension to his master's thesis. Joshua has a passion for teaching and the world of academics. Having taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade, Joshua possesses a wide range of knowledge in elementary language arts, math and science. Each day, he approaches teaching as a new adventure and works to create the most interesting, and interactive, instructional methods that he can deliver. His one-of-a-kind teaching approach has brought him many accolades. For the school year of 2013 and 2014, Joshua earned a "Perfect Award" from his district as a teacher of excellence. Along with that, he has coached several students to perfect scores on the mathematics section of the NJASK. Kaitlyn, an expert tutor, is a graduate student at Fairleigh Dickinson University, working towards her Masters in Education and Special Education certification. She received her BA in Psychology, where she was able to focus on child and adolescent development, and theories of learning. Kaitlyn is originally from NY where she was a PASE summer teaching fellow as well as an Assistant ELA instructor for the Boys Club of NY. Her passion is teaching kids how to be confident, engaged learners.

When she is not focused on education, Kaitlyn enjoys cooking, swimming and staying involved on campus. She has two rescue dogs! She also speaks Spanish and would love to learn a third language.

Ken, a master tutor, has become a seasoned high school educator over the past 15 years. His students really like his unique and encouraging teaching style. Through his many years of enjoyable teaching experience, Ken can easily make a difficult lesson not so difficult. He believes strongly that every student has the potential to reach success if shown the right method to achieve it. Besides teaching, Ken loves to pursue fun times with his son; favored activities include hiking, reading, fishing - ANYTHING together!

Kirk, a master tutor, is a recently-retired college professor of environmental engineering and water resources engineering (subdisciplines of civil engineering). Kirk has received degrees in chemical engineering, computer science, and environmental engineering. He has taught courses for several years in hydraulics, hydrology, and water quality that involve chemistry, physics, and mathematics including algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and calculus. He has also taught the use of Microsoft Excel and computer programming in VBA in Excel. Kirk can show students how mathematics is used in the real world to solve important problems regarding engineering and the environment. He can also help students develop a strategy to best prepare for an exam.

Kristen, a master tutor, has a B.A. and M.A. in special needs and a minor in English literature from College of Saint Elizabeth. She has more than 6 years of teaching and tutoring experience. She enjoys tutoring elementary and middle school students. She is a 4th grade teacher in Esther Jackson Elementary School, a title 1 focus school with an urban population of multicultural students in Atlanta, Georgia. As a classroom teacher, Kristen created units of study in math, guided reading, ELA, and social studies. Kristen took part in several professional development training courses that allowed her to become proficient in technology. Kristen frequently used her promethean boards and student laptops, along with Animoto, Edmodo, and KidBlog within lesson plans. She used other differentiated, multi-sensory learning centers and activities where applicable in an effort to enhance the learning environment for the children. For her students, she always focused on the level of rigor and higher order thinking presented in each lesson. The passing rate for the specific students she taught were: math 94, reading 100, ELA 95, social studies 91.

Laurence, a master tutor, having graduated Johns Hopkins University with a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics, and Rutgers University with a B.A. in Chemistry. He started tutoring when he was fourteen years old. A neighbor asked him to help her daughter with pre-algebra and he obliged. He must have been good, because soon after, he was being asked by other parents to help their children with math and science. When he began tutoring, he discovered that he enjoyed helping other people learn. Laurence has found that there is nothing more rewarding that seeing the light of comprehension click on in a student's eyes when they've suddenly understood something. By the time he graduated high school, Laurence had tutored more than a dozen people. Over the past twleve years, Laurence have enjoyed tutoring immensely. Laurence tutors: pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus I/AB, calculus II/BC, high school physics, AP physics I, AP physics II, AP physics C, general relativity, quantum mechanics, special relativity, high school chemistry, AP chemistry, and several other subjects. Laurence has also helped prepare students for the math portion of the SAT.

Luis, a master tutor, has a B.A. in chemistry with a concentration in biochemistry from Skidmore College. He has a M.A. in secondary science education in chemistry 7-12 from Columbia University Teachers College. In addition, he is in his third year where he is pursing his Ph.D in organic chemistry part time at Seton Hall University. Luis has 9 years of teaching experience including 5th and 6th grade science and math, middle school science, high school level chemistry and biology as well as college level general chemistry and organic chemistry. Luis feels that teaching is about conveying a love of learning and discovery as well. His career interests lie primarily in science education; focusing on secondary education in chemistry. His long term goal is to become a professor of Organic Chemistry with a focus on research in natural product synthesis that focuses on endocrinology, immunology and cardiology. The science teacher that he would like to be is the one who inspired those who want to pursue a career in science. Luis is a highly effective teacher who is passionate about helping his students understand the material they are learning and develop their critical thinking skills.

Marcel, a master tutor, completed Medical School and is now in his 4th year of his residency program at Duke. Marcel taught chemistry formally at an urban high school before attending Medical School. Overall, he has 11 years of tutoring experience and is successful with his energetic, passionate and boisterous personality. Marcel likes to tutor through style of attrition where he will present the most difficult questions possible so that the student can struggle through and then they can work together to get the answer. This helps to make the student feel more comfortable with material faster because once they are in the classroom things are easier.

Martin, a master tutor, is a highly motivated math and science tutor with over 15 years of experience. He has over 10 years of hands-on experience working as a research chemist in Research & Development (R&D), developing consumer goods with scientific knowledge and research. Martin is patient, articulate and able to convey science concepts to his students with everyday examples that makes science fun and interesting. Martin believes that with hard work, focus and determination, students can master and enjoy science as well as improve their school grades. In his free time, Martin enjoys basketball, soccer and solving word problems, Sudoku, and logic puzzles.

Matt, a master tutor, graduated from Stockton University with a B.S. in Marine Science and a B.A. in Education. After graduating in 2012, Matt decided to get some field experience and shipped off to Alaska to work as a Marine Biologist on fishing boats. Matt returned the following year to begin his teaching career in the Edison Township School District, where has been for 5 years. When Matt is off in the summer, he has worked as an English teacher in France, and for the past 2 years works for a company called Rein Teen Tours, where he supervises teenagers on a summer adventure touring the world. Matt believes that all students should have an interactive learning experience, and makes learning fun so students strive to become life long learners. Matt is adaptable in any situation and rises to any challenge presented. His goal is to ensure his students are confident in their abilities. When Matt has free time, he enjoys traveling, learning about different cultures, working out, and practicing mixed martial arts.

Milan, an experienced tutor and medical student, graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science and studied Astronomy. He has over seven years of tutoring and teaching experience. His primary subjects are math through Calculus 3, various STEM classes, SAT, ACT, SSAT, and AP exams. In addition, he golfed at the collegiate level at a D-1 school. In his free time, he enjoys following all sports including football and golf.

Nick, an expert tutor, is a graduate of Montclair State University with a degree in Molecular Biology. He has a passion for teaching especially topics pertaining to life sciences and he enjoys communicating information to others. Nick is currently applying to Medical School. Studying for the MCAT gives him a strong background with materials often covered in Science classes in schools across the nation. Nick has been both a peer tutor for fellow science majors, and a teacher of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Montclair State. His background in teaching a variety of practices allows his to instill many traits such as discipline, creativity, and resourcefulness, to name a few needed to succeed in demanding environments in others. He offers an open setting where individuals can feel their way through the material which aims to give students a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Nick's passions include science, BJJ, reading, and listening to podcasts.

Nickie, a master tutor, received his M.A. in elementary education from Howard University and his B.S. from Mississippi State University. While obtaining his M.A., Nickie served Fairfax County public schools as an instructional aide and student teacher; while also completing his research on traditional style teaching versus teaching with manipulates in the elementary classroom and its benefits. Nickie is currently working with the Bright Kids Agency in NYC as a part time Teacher and a Contract Tutor. Nickie's passion is to have students reach success in the classroom by their own personal way of learning which has inspired his love of tutoring.

Nicole, a master tutor, graduated from Caldwell University (formerly Caldwell College) in May 2011 with a B.A. in Elementary Education and English. Currently, she has her teacher of English certification, teacher of students with disabilities certification, and earned her M.A. in special education from Caldwell University in May 2015. Previously, Nicole has taught fifth and sixth grade language arts and reading. She currently teaches a self contained third grade class and a fifth grade reading class. Nicole is also the assistant technology integration specialist at her school in which she aids in keeping up with the latest educational technology. She utilizes small group instruction, uses technology as much as possible, and supports and monitors her students' progress. Nicole was also the Graduate Research Assistant at Caldwell University from 2012 to 2014. As a part of her assistant-ship, she tutored in the Caldwell University literacy center. Nicole's teaching experience is not only limited to the classroom, she has been working in the children's section of her local library for the past seven years. She has planned and organized weekly and monthly story time activities for children from ages one to six years old. Through all of her experiences, she knows that teaching children is her passion in life.

Nicole, a master tutor, earned her M.A. in educational leadership and is a fourth grade teacher of ELA and science in Newark, NJ. She has been teaching fourth grade for 4 years, has experience in special education at the elementary level and has taught all subjects. Nicole specializes in English and with her experience is comfortable in all elementary subjects. Nicole has been tutoring for about 6 years. As a teacher she has tutored students through her school for standardized testing. Nicole is a very organized and detailed person and is athletic, outgoing, and loves what she does!

Nicole, a master tutor, graduated from New York University with a bachelor's degree in Childhood Education, Special Education, and Psychology. She has worked as a teacher in the New York City public schools for the past 7 years for students in grades K, 1, 2, 3, and 5. Over the past 7 years, Nicole has learned many strategies and interventions to help students overcome any academic challenges that they may be facing. As both a general education teacher and a special education teacher, Nicole has worked with many students who have learning disabilities and IEPs. Nicole utilizes her many years of experience to create customized lessons and activities for the students she is tutoring.

Rebekah, a master tutor, has been teaching kindergarten for nine years and loves every minute of it. She graduated in 2006 with a dual certification in early childhood and elementary education from Kean University. In addition to her dual certification, she recently received her M.A. in educational leadership from Seton Hall. She loves motivating children and watching them succeed! When she is not working with children, she can be found running, hiking and exploring the outdoors!

Reginald attended Montclair State University, where he earned his Bachelors degree in Mathematics and is currently earning his Masters in Education. His experience in tutoring ranges from primary school (K-5) all the way to high school. He has coached students in mathematics and the sciences such as physics and chemistry at Montclair Kimberley Academy for 5 years! He makes learning math fun and easy. In his free time, Reginald enjoys watching football. He favorite team is the Philadelphia Eagles! He is looking forward to helping you pass your next class.

Rharia, a master tutor, earned a B.B.A. from Baruch College. She then earned a M.A. in education from NJCU. She is a certified teacher who has been teaching for over 15 years. She currently teaches 2nd grade as a dual language teacher in Englewood, NJ. She has taught in all the levels; from pre-kindergarten to middle school. Rharia has spent most of her teaching career in elementary education, specifically second grade. Her teaching style is a combination of using visuals and manipulates in order to make the concepts more understandable and concrete for her students. It is also very important to Rharia that she build a rapport with the students, which brings forth a smooth transition into improving their learning.

Bob, a master tutor, graduated from the University of Scranton in 2008 with a B.S. in counseling and human service degree. After graduation he began working at a residential treatment center for high school boys for two years. He was then accepted into the Nashville Teaching Fellows, an alternative teaching program through Belmont University. Though the program he taught resource and inclusion in a middle school setting. In 2012 he received a M.A. in special education. This last summer Bob returned to New Jersey and became the behavioral disability teacher in school #2, an elementary school in Linden.

Roberto, a master tutor, has been a teacher for the last 12 years for the Jersey City Public School District. He is a graduate of both Rutgers University and New Jersey City University where he received degrees in Psychology and Chemistry, respectively. Roberto has been fortunate enough to teach children from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs. He loves sharing his knowledge of the sciences.

Ron, a master tutor, is a retired chemical engineer with more than thirty-five years of project management experience. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering from New York University, and his Master of Engineering from The City College of New York, both in Chemical Engineering. Concurrently with his long-term engineering career, Ron went back to graduate school and obtained a Master of Arts in Education as well as his Professional Clear California State Teaching Credential from Azusa Pacific University. He has more than fifteen years of classroom experience, as both a high school math and science teacher, and adjunct professor of mathematics at Argosy University in California. Throughout his teaching career, Ron has tutored elementary, secondary, and post-secondary students in all levels of mathematics, chemistry, and physics, in both public and private environments. While he was raising his children in Westchester County, New York, Ron served seven years as a Trustee of the Board of Education of the Yorktown Central School District, as well as volunteering for many activities within the district schools. During that same time period, he owned and operated (along with his wife) the Open Day Pre-School in Mohegan Lake, New York. Finally, Ron is a veteran of the United States Army, with active service during the Vietnam War.

Ruth, a master tutor, has been teaching in public schools for many years. She loves working with students one-on-one because it is a great way to make connections and achieve success with the learning objectives. Ruth has a love for animals and the outdoors. In the past, she has had a variety of pets including horses, chickens, pigs, a cow, along with dogs and cats. Currently, she has just one pet, a rescue cat, named Cowboy.

Saarah has over 10 years of teaching experience and enjoys working with students of all ages. She has been a STEM instructor for the last 3 years in New Jersey. She received her master's degree in Sustainability and Leadership and enjoys incorporating creativity in her classes. She is very passionate about taking care of the planet and teaching STEM related skills while making sure that her students are able to understand the material being taught on an individual basis. Saarah caters to her students' individual and unique learning styles in order to connect and engage with them in a meaningful and successful way. She enjoys reading and spending time in nature.
