This month we sat down with our Expert Tutor, Nathanial. Read on to get to know one of our favorite tutors in just 10 questions in 10 minutes!

Q: What is your favorite subject and why?

A: History has always been my favorite subject. Learning about history provides much of the same excitement and wonder that one can get from well-written fictional stories, but experience is made more special because it is a story of our collective past as a species and it has a connection to my life today. I’ve always had a particular interest in political and military history, as intense competition under the highest stakes produces some of the most interesting and unexpected responses in people.

 Q: What are some of your hobbies?

A: I really enjoy playing games of all kinds. I played sports while I was in school and I have been playing video and board games since I was very young with my friends and family. Nowadays I also design historical board games in order to examine historical conflicts through the lens of a game designer and player. I think that games are a wonderful tool for cognitive, social, and academic development if leveraged in the right way.

 I also love reading and discussing literature. I have a voracious appetite for non-fiction reading about political, economic, and military topics. While I don’t read fictional books that often anymore, I have a collection of online web-comics that I read for fun.
