Sophie W., Expert Tutor: Bringing Creative Writing and Language Arts to Life for K-6 Students

Sophie, an Expert Tutor, earned her Master of Arts in Teaching in K–6 Elementary Education from Montclair State University in 2024, along with her NJ Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a minor in Musical Theatre Studies and has worked with elementary-aged students in classroom and one-on-one settings since 2018. Sophie specializes in working with K–6 students, particularly in reading, writing, and language arts. Her lessons combine strong academic foundations with creativity, incorporating children's literature, games, conversation, writing, and hands-on activities based on each student's individual needs and interests. Her background also extends beyond the classroom. Sophie has studied vocal performance for 20 years and continues to pursue her own interests in writing and the arts. She brings that creative side of herself into her teaching, especially when working on storytelling, creative writing, reading aloud, and helping students become more expressive and comfortable with language. Outside of teaching, Sophie loves spending time in New York City—catching a Broadway show, wandering through The Strand, exploring the Upper West Side, or finding somewhere new to write over a good cup of coffee. Sophie brings warmth, humor, and plenty of personality to her sessions while keeping lessons purposeful and tailored to the individual student. She wants kids to become stronger readers and writers, but she also wants them to genuinely enjoy the time they spend learning with her.
